RE inhibition of cell viability may be mediated by induction of Hep-2 cells to undergo apoptosis and autophagy. TEM images showed autophagic cytoplasmic vacuoles formation in cells treated with RE nanoparticle (red arrow). Loss of cell membrane integrity is noticed in treated cells (blue arrow). Chromatin margination and clumping are marked signs of apoptosis found in Hep-2 cells (black arrow). Loss of integrity of intracellular organelles is found concomitant with cell vacuolation (green arrow)
