Schematic illustration demonstrates the anti-viral action of metallic NPs. The anti-viral activity of metallic NPS is largely due to the induction of oxidative stress and generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which finally leads to mitochondrial dysfunction, which in turn results in DNA damage via a ROS-mediated mitochondrial intrinsic p53-dependent apoptotic pathway or via the autophagy-signaling pathway
